Tips for finding ringtones online

Does your phone support ringtones? Some phones have built-in composers, allowing you to input the tone's notes directly on the keypad. Phones with WAP/GPRS capabilities enable you to browse to WAP sites featuring free or paid downloads. Some phones leave you no option but to download directly from your carrier. Make sure you know what method(s) your phone supports, and decide which route to go.

Buyer beware. The Internet is rife with "businesses" that are more than happy to take your money and run. If you're purchasing ringtones with your credit card, make sure it's a secured transaction, and try to do some research on the company you're buying from.

Listen. Most reputable ringtone sites feature soundclips of the tones, allowing you to listen before downloading. It's not uncommon to find two or three different versions of the same tone. Find the version that you like.

Remember that there are different types of ringtones, and that your phone may not support the type you're about to download. When searching for tones, it's a good idea to search for the make and model of your phone as well.
